Two of the newer dialogues to emerge from this meeting were the importance of incorporating climate change into water policies and the need to consider aquatic ecosystems as biodiversity reserves, and preserve them accordingly. The experts participating in the meeting highlighted the deciding role of education in changing people’s behaviours with regards to water use.
The Mayor of Saragossa, Juan Alberto Belloch, and the President of Expo Zaragoza 2008, Roque Gistau, closed the three-day event together. Both underscored the importance for Saragossa to become a worldwide reference for a new culture of water, an ambition that is upheld by city’s hosting of the International Exposition Zaragoza 2008 and its election as the seat of the headquarters for the United Nations Decade for Action, Water for Life, until 2015.
