This event allowed for participants to analyze and broaden the idea of the ‘functionality of drainage basins,’ and to think innovatively about their planning, management, and restoration. The aim of the debate was to properly take into account the functions of water as a medium and as a resource in perpetual interaction with different ecosystems.
What do we know about the functions of drainage basins, of their current state in the world, the threats they face and their future perspectives?
What tools do we have at our disposal to evaluate natural resources and the functionality of drainage basins in an integrated way? What responses do we have to various expectations, different socioeconomic, and climate change, scenarios?
How can we use institutional, legal and economic instruments to implement planning and integrated management that take into account public interests and those of the different economic sectors?
How can we guarantee that ecosystem functions and ecological services of drainage basins will be considered an integral element in our socioeconomics, and non-negotiable?
These are some of the questions that were raised within the 6th Forum.
