H.E. Mr. Emilio Fernandez-Castaño y Diaz Caneja, Commissioner General of the Exposition.

According to the rules of the event, the Exposition is under the authority of the H.E. the First Vice President and Minister of the Presidency of the Government of Spain. In order to guarantee the success and prestige of the Exposition, she will exert her authority and control through H.E. Mr. Emilio Fernandez-Castaño y Diaz Caneja, Commissioner General of the Exposition, who represents the Government of Spain.

The Commissioner General was born on 10th January 1950 in Santander (Cantabria, España) and after graduating in law in 1980, he became a diplomat. Among other posts and duties, Fernandez-Castaño has served in the Mission of Spain before the European Communities, as Deputy Director General for Communitarian Coordination and Institutional Relations, Director of the Private Office of the Secretary of State for the European Communities and Secretary of State for the European Union. In 1996 he was appointed Ambassador of Spain to Australia and later Ambassador of Spain to the Algerian Republic Democratic and Popular in 2001. In May 2004 he was appointed Director General for International Economic Relations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation until his appointment to as Commissioner General in December 2005.
