Meant for all, belonging to all

The Water Tribune will give near 60 Meetings and Parallel Events the possibility to take advantage of the infrastructure of Expo Zaragoza 2008 in order to hold their activities. Many public and private, national and international organisations and institutions have been invited to bring greater plurality and wealth of knowledge to the Legacy of the Water Tribune.

The Meetings and Parallel Events to be held during the International Exposition will take place at different locations: the Water Tribune Pavilion, the Auditorium of the University of Zaragoza, the Auditorium of the Instituto Tecnológico de Aragón (Aragon Institute of Technology), the CIAMA (International Water and Environment Centre) headquarters and the Huesca Conference Centre are some of the spaces associated to this initiative.

Conference on “Water: Economy, Politics and Agriculture”
From May 12 to May 15 in the Auditorium Congress Palace in Zaragoza.

Conference on “Sustainable Water and Food”
July 4 in the Pavilion of the Water Tribune
Alimenterra Network, Slowfood and the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Environment have organised an event that promotes public ecologic and sustainable catering and the creation of a European Network called Mensa Civica in favour of this type of catering. Additionally, this session links Expo Zaragoza 2008 (Water and Sustainability) to Expo Milan 2015 (Feeding the Planet).

Water Ethic Forum
July 5 and 6 in the Paraninfo (University of Zaragoza) and at the Water Tribune
On July 5th closed sessions will take place in the Main Hall Building of the University. On July 6th a work session will take place with guest public and observers in the pavilion of the Water Tribune. Additionally, a declaration regarding ethics in water management will be put forward.

Conference on “Water, Meteorology and Sustainability”
July 7 in the Main Hall of the University of Zaragoza.
The Spanish Centre of Meteorology with the collaboration of the company Contazara S.A. organises this session. The talks will deal with topics linked to measurement both of water volumes as well as of other valuable information for the adequate management and promotion of sustainable water use.

The Savings Bank Caja de Ahorros de la Inmaculada of Aragón (CAI) will hold the International Congress on social doctrine of the church organised by the Vatican and the Archbishopric of Zaragoza.

Encounter on “Water Management, Financing and Public Policy. Spain and Mexico”
July 14 in the Pavilion of the Water Tribune.
The National Water Commission of Mexico (CONAGUA) and the Water Tribune organise this encounter in which the Governors of Tabasco, Sinaloa, Morelos and Michoacan put forward innovative plans, learned lessons, best practices and experiences applicable to other environments in a Discussion Panel, aiming at the strengthening of cooperation and dialogue with the Spanish authorities.

The book “Climate Change in Spain and its consequences in the Water Sector” has been published by AQUALIA and the Spanish University Rey Juan Carlos, as a result of the collaboration, between both institutions, in the summer courses organised by the Foundation of the Spanish University Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) in Aranjuez (Madrid).

Event “Drought-Huesca in 2005”

Session organised by the Town Council of Huesca, devoted to reflect about the drought undergone by Huesca in 2005. The event includes different talks delivered by expert guests, the projection of a video on “Huesca Today” and some images of the drought suffered by the province of Huesca.

Event organised by the Government of Mexico with the support of the National Commission on Water (Conagua) and the Water Tribune. Mexican and Spanish journalists will reflect on lessons, best practices and experiences that can successfully be replicated towards the achievement of a new water culture.

Conference organised by the Hydrogen Foundation of the Government of Aragon. A demo-visit to the hydrogen venue in Valdespartera shall be carried out, transfer to Expo by hydrogen buses followed by a round table in the lecture theatre of the Water Tribune.

Conference on “Cities and Fair Trade”

Conference on “Consumption in fair cities” organised by the National Coordinator of Fair Trade. It is part of an effort to inform and train in topics regarding fair trade and responsible consumption. Supported by the SEEI and the Pavilion of Spain.

Conference on “Water and telecommunications”
September 5 in the pavilion of the Water Tribune.
Talk organised by the Official Professional Association of Telecommunication Engineers (COIT) in Aragon. A brief outline of the activities carried out in telecommunication, in order to manage water resources as well as the future trends, will be carried out. The presentation will take place from 16:30 pm to 17:30 pm.

Conference on “Water, Tourism and Climate”
September 11 in the Pavilion of the Water Tribune.
Conference organised by the Observatory for Sustainability in Spain (OSE). This seminar aims to analyze the main interactions and interrelations of water as key factor for the sustainability in the development of the tourist sector in the light of new scenarios induced by climate change.

Exhibition: "The Paradise on Earth. Water and gardens at the Aljafería Palace"
From June 14 to September 14 in the Aljafería Palace (Zaragoza)
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 21:00 hours.
The relationship and dialogue between the Palace and the water is present through the garden and the alberca. The hispanic and muslim Palace was designed open to the paradise and its main symbol is the water, key part of the Paradise on Earth.

National Geographic Exhibition: “WATER Paradises”
From July 7 to September 14 in the Congress Palace of Huesca
Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 13:00 / 17:00 to 20:00 hours. Saturdays from 9:00 to 14:00 hours.
Unpublished exhibition of the best photographers that work for National Geographic. The exhibition gathers 30 impressive photographs, in nearly two meter format, all of them revolving around the topic of water.

El Roto Exhibition: “AGUATINTA”
From July 11 to August 30 in the Paraninfo (University of Zaragoza)
Opening hours: Monday to Saturday from 11:00 to 14:00 / 18:00 to 21:00 hours.
Exhibition of the Spanish cartoonist Andrés Rábago, known by the nickname El Roto.
The exhibition is composed of 52 original drawings, part in colour and part in black and white. The theme of all the drawings is water.

Exhibition “Where there is Water, there is Life”
From July 11 to August 30 in the Paraninfo (University of Zaragoza)
Opening hours: Monday to Saturday from 11:00 to 14:00 / 18:00 to 21:00 hours.
Photographic exhibit organised by the Soria Forum. It will be set up on July 4 and it includes 75 unpublished colour photographs that highlight the importance of water from different perspectives.

Exhibition “EXPO x EXPOS”
From July 17 to August 30 in the Paraninfo (University of Zaragoza)
Opening hours: Monday to Saturday from 11:00 to 14:00 / 18:00 to 21:00 hours.
The exhibit shows the activity of the International Exhibitions throughout history, from their beginning in the middle of the XIX century. The exhibition is organised by the BIE (International Bureau of Exhibitions).
